Opal Class

Welcome to Emerald Class' page!

I am Miss Wade and I work alongside the wonderful Mrs Dale, Mrs Knight and Miss Williams-Day!

Our job is to help your child learn and achieve anything they put their mind to!

Autumn term:

I hope you have all had a lovely summer and I am sure you are now ready to start the new school year, so Welcome to Year 1!

Our first topic this term is ‘Memory Box’, we will be looking at our lives so far to find out more about how we change and grow. Why not take a look at our topic web to see what we are going to be doing?

Transition from Reception to Year 1:

Our aim is to ensure that the children experience a smooth transition from Foundation Stage to Key Stage One. The Year One curriculum builds upon and extends the experiences that the children have had in Reception. Learning through play with continue to be used throughout the school week and the children will gradually be eased into more formal learning as the year goes on so that they remain motivated, enthused and eager learners. Please don’t hesitate to contact me either before or after school if you have any questions of queries.

Emerald of the week:

Each Monday one child’s name will be picked from the hat and chosen to be our Emerald of the week. This child will be responsible for helping with jobs in the classroom throughout the week. On Friday, the chosen child will take home our class bear and diary for the weekend. They will be asked to take the teddy on their adventures over the weekend and record what they do in the diary.

Reading:

Your child will be given a reading book and diary to take home and read. Please ensure that they are in your child's book bag every day. It is really important that your child read at much as possible. We ask that you try to read with your child every night, even if it's just for 5 minutes. Your child will also have lots of opportunities to read and enjoy books throughout the week in school.

Homework:

Homework will be set each half term and will be graded in difficulty. We ask that you complete one of the tasks each week and record what your child has done in their homework book. Their books will be marked and returned each Wednesday. In addition to this, spellings will be sent home each Friday after a short 'quiz' to see how they are doing.

Volunteers:

At sound, we always welcome volunteers to come and read with the children, work alongside the class or even volunteer for clubs or special activities. If this is of interest to you, don't hesitate to speak to the office or the class teacher and they will point you in the right direction.

Thank you all for your support and I look forward to a successful year in Emerald Class!

Miss Wade
